Zero Hour
campaign
This project was led by Greg Bunbury, a designer and consultant who advocates for diversity, inclusion and socially conscious design. The task was to create assets: poster, leaflet and social media identity for the Zero Hour campaign, which is a youth-led organisation that aims to make the government take proper action against climate change. One of the key points to consider during the process of making the poster, was that these would be distributed locally in community centres, therefore, grabbing the attention of the general public was one of the main factors to remember when creating the assets, whilst also raising awareness of the climate change crisis, and call for new legislation to address the Climate and Ecology Bill, in time for COP27. More information on Zero Hour and their campaign can be found on their website and social media platforms.

Intentions
The intentions behind creating the assets for this campaign was to be able to design something that incorporates daily life objects and try to tie down to the topic of climate change, to make it engaging and disruptive. Instead of focusing on the entirety of the problems of climate change, I chose to focus on one of the effects of climate change and went with global warming.

Inspiration
When sketching ideas for the poster, I used Pinterest as my source of inspiration and was able to find some interesting posters on climate change, which helped me develop my own ideas.

Initial sketches
All sketches for potential ideas were drawn on paper. I had used colour within my sketches as well to figure out what colour palette could be used for each idea to reflect the problem highlighted in the poster, along with annotations. These annotations came in handy later on when it came to exploring different concepts and having back up ideas in case the chosen idea didn’t work out properly.

Leaflet
Along with the poster, a leaflet was also designed, which would act as an information resource for people to take with them. Therefore, I looked at leaflet designs which effectively worked in serving this purpose. The final outcome was a bi-fold leaflet as it worked best with the poster design and convey Zero Hour’s message, as well as allow consistency between the two assets.

Social assets
For the social assets, I chose Instagram as the social media platform to focus on, due to its photo-based algorithm and being one of the most used app. I chose to design a carousel post that would inform users about the effects of climate change and provide information on how to help and sign the climate and ecology bill. All the information used within the post was sourced from the Zero Hour website, with additional info from a WWF article.
